As a San Francisco Bay Area native raised in Oakland, it is almost impossible to be unaffected by the surrounding environments and colorful culture. Classically trained through life experience and seething with creativity, Lanie has been inspired to communicate through her art.
Raised in a community of diversity as a bohemian girl in the 90’s, Lanie’s art spans disparate genres that reflect her own life changes. Drawing liberally from music and street culture, she creates art ranging from painting, mixed media, furniture, lighting, graffiti to photography. Her practice primarily involves traditional and digital processes, altered photographs, and mixed media on board.
Meant to evoke feelings of wonder and paradox, her offerings are a paean to life, death and rebirth, with a strong emphasis on the beauty, power, volatile and contradictory nature of human sexuality.
“Making art is like breathing and a way of talking. Creating a painting, sculpture or experience that evokes wonder thrills me. A piece that could be great just on its own then to add one item out of place intrigues me. Life is dirty, expressive, rough, challenging, elating, sad, violent and odd. My pieces reflect this viewpoint. I am made from a fabric woven with strings of triumph, perseverance, empathy, pain, strength, drive and admiration of life. This is my story, past, present and future done in paintings, my dreamtime. Come watch it unfold. ” -Lanie
